Annual Report - 2006

HONORING FIVE... CELEBRATING THOUSANDS!
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
-
With
a strong partnership with The California Endowment, NMS launched
new significant programmatic resources for our San Diego community
of nonprofits with a successful Social Enterprise Symposium attracting
the participation of over 125 nonprofit leaders in February of
2006. We followed up this success with development and first phase
implementation of a Training Track, Executive Leadership Forums
and other resources in partnership with the Social Enterprise
Institute to help nonprofits learn how to identify earned income
opportunities. This program will continue to grow with great promise
in 2007.
- NMS approached it own board development with a strategic goal
of bringing on board significant new talent and affiliation with
the local Corporate community and succeeded in welcoming Dick
Eger from SAIC and Chuck Hansen from Viejas Enterprises.
- Our Management Consulting Division accomplished an incredible
push toward program sustainability surpassing annual goals for
client work and providing nearly 5,000 hours of professional capacity
building services for nonprofits.
- All of our program and service Divisions have expanded horizons
to meet client needs—we pushed well beyond traditional strategic
planning, board retreat, and sexual harassment training, etc.,
work to meet the needs of our nonprofit clients:
- We designed and launched new web site design and development
for 26 clients;
- We did contract management work
- We undertook successful community organizing projects
- We accomplished several feasibility studies and business
planning contracts
- We assisted a number of clients with executive transitions
- We conducted several contracts for compensation review
and analysis
- We produced a record number of seminars in our Public Training
Institute
- We redesigned our training program to ensure nonprofit
organizations receive the Sweetest Deal possible in terms
of leveraging their scarce training dollars
- NMS also seized opportunities to establish new strategic
partnerships in 2006 with the Social Enterprise Institute
(Orange County);
- UCSD with whom we are exploring the feasibility of a
Social Enterprise Certificate Program for nonprofits;
- ten new technology business partners and highly qualified
technology consultants;
- Wells Fargo Bank, which hired NMS to train its managers
across the State in Board Service;
- the San Diego Foundation, which chose to engage NMS
services to conduct a Foundation sponsored 2-day intensive
board training session for 40 nonprofit leaders as part
of their Organizational Success Program; and
- with Citibank, which hired us to provide executive
transition training for their community partners throughout
Southern California
And
finally, we can continue to take pride in the quality of programs
and services we provide with consistently high evaluation marks
from participant evaluations across the board. Not a single program
had an average below 4.5 out of a possible 5. We are grateful
for the terrific work of our professional partners and volunteers
who bring our clients the highest quality of service on time and
on target with the deepest respect for organizational and community
cultures.
