Strong and Successful Nonprofit Organizations…
Alive and Well in San Diego and the Cause for our
Salute to Excellence Celebration

In 2004, the most recent year for which statistics are readily available, nearly 8 billion dollars in revenue was managed by San Diego’s nonprofit sector organizations and used to provide a full spectrum of critical services and benefits for San Diego county residents and communities. The sector employed 79,334 individuals that accounted for 6.2% of the total county workforce.

We are a powerful special interest group to be sure…with our special interest invested in the challenging work of building strong and healthy communities throughout the San Diego region.

Our population of successful nonprofits, which number in the thousands, continually work toward the vision, artfully weaving values and guiding principles into a tapestry aligned with organization mission. Their leaders are courageous, take calculated risks when the result will advance the success of their mission, and make tough decisions about people, ideas, and programs. They remain successful by being transparent about mission, performance, problems and achievements. But most of all they are the storytellers….they talk about audacious goals and empowerment and present statistics that prove the impact of their footprints in their community of service.
