Salute to Excellence Awards Program

Imagine San Diego County without its nearly 9,000 nonprofit organizations, their services and their
dedicated Boards, staff and volunteers. Thousands of organizations serving an incredible array of causes from social services to health care to arts, culture, education and the environment … services for children, teens, adults and seniors … and our friends in the animal world. More than 6,000 of these nonprofit organizations operate with budgets less than $25,000 a year, yet provide critical services to our communities. Imagine our region without them! Without the myriad services provided by the nonprofit sector, San Diego County would surely be a very different place!
In recognition of the efforts of these nonprofits, Nonprofit Management Solutions, the largest nonprofit management support organization in San Diego County, established a major awards program for nonprofits in the San Diego region. Organizations and their leaders are judged on bold leadership and innovative solutions in their efforts to move their missions forward…to change lives and impact communities. From twelve finalists, four organizations and leaders will receive cash awards and all will be featured in week-long NMS/Sempra Energy sponsored PSAs on KUSI TV to highlight their achievement.
We celebrate thousands with this award program and honor five who have used best practices to accomplish something extraordinary on behalf of their community!
The inaugural “Salute to Excellence” event was held in February 2005 with renowned guest Peter Yarrow, famed for his career with Peter, Paul and Mary as well as for extensive philanthropic work. The event last year honored Joan Embery with the Legacy Award and celebrated the excellent achievements of four outstanding nonprofits in San Diego. The 2007 NMS Legacy Award will be presented to Kimberly Hunt, KUSI News Anchor and Billy Ray Smith, television and radio personality in recognition of their significant volunteer commitment to nonprofit community organizations in San Diego.
On Friday, November 30, 2007, NMS will host a Salute to Excellence luncheon for nonprofit executives and practitioners, leaders, board members, volunteers, corporate and government stakeholders to showcase the awards ceremony at the Bahia Resort Hotel, Mission Bay Ballroom.
