Write your awesome label here.
Course features
  • Category: Board Governance
  • Instructor: Mark Nechita
  • Course Length: 120 minutes
Course objectives:
  • Clarify board roles and structure — distinguishing board vs. staff responsibilities, and understanding how composition, recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and committee charters shape an effective board.

  • Run governance-sound meetings, using committee structures and agendas that keep discussion focused on decisions that matter.

  • Apply core governance policies — conflict of interest, whistleblower protection, and document retention — and understand the board's financial oversight duties and legal liability exposure.

  • Plan for organizational change, including executive transition and how governance needs shift as a board moves from small/founder-led to larger and more complex.

  • Self-assess governance health using a red-flags checklist, and leave with key takeaways to apply at the next board meeting.

Course overview
Strong governance keeps missions on track — but knowing your role, your board's role, and where the lines actually fall isn't always obvious. This hands-on workshop is designed for nonprofit professionals and board members who want clarity on governance fundamentals: fiduciary duty, board-staff dynamics, and how to run meetings that actually move the mission forward.

In two hours, you'll work through real governance scenarios and walk away with tools you can bring straight to your next board meeting.

Good governance isn't red tape — it's how your mission stays protected.
